– The final Session will end by 12.30pm on Day 5, followed by lunch.
The overarching intention is to create and maintain conditions for deepening our Mindfulness practice both inside and outside the ‘practice room’
Our standard day will include ‘cycles’ (of mostly unguided or lightly guided) walking and sitting practice with a movement practice at the beginning of the day and a further one in the afternoon.
It is a beautiful setting and to help counter unhelpful practice striving there is time for after lunch walks or simply letting go and ‘doing nothing much’. The programme will include the integration of day to day shared activities such as meal prep and light cleaning duties … as part of the way we can bridge between practice on retreat and practice when we are at home.
Near to the start of the day (not first thing) there will be short orientation to the practice theme for the day based around the 4 Foundations of Mindfulness.
In an afternoon ‘cycle’ there will be an option to briefly speak (one to one) with KV about what is present in your practice.
The structure and theme (which is flexible) is based around the 4 Foundations of Mindfulness (‘The 4 Ways of Establishing Mindfulness’) with a settling in on the first day and a ‘preparing to leave’, consolidating last day:
Day 1: (Evening) Intentions and Attitude
Day 2: ‘The Body’ (‘breath’ and ‘body sensations’ as the ‘object’)
Day 3: ‘Feeling Tone’ (the ‘hedonic tone’ of sensations as ‘object’)
Day 4: ‘Events in the Mind’ (mental events as the object)
Day 5: Consolidating…preparing to return to ‘the world’
A typical day:
07:00 Chi Kung outside (guided Shi-ba-shi)
07:30 Personal sitting practice (lightly guided)
09:30 First Cycle of Practices* (including Body Scan and Short Talk on days theme)
NB: A Mindful Tea Break will be integrated in this cycle
15:30 Afternoon Cycle of Practices* starting with Mindful Yoga
20:15 Evening Sit (Open Awareness or Kindly Awareness…less guided)
21:00 Formal end of day/time for personal practices
* Cycle of Practices: 30 minutes of sitting meditation followed by similar period of walking meditation…then sitting again etc.
