Mindfulness MBSR Course

Mindfulness means awareness. It is a basic human quality and involves learning to focus and pay wise attention to what’s going on inside your mind and body, and in the outside world.

Our minds are easily distracted, often unhelpfully going over past events in our head and trying to anticipate the future.  Mindfulness is a way of paying attention to, and seeing more clearly whatever is happening in our lives.  At first, paying attention to our thoughts, feelings and sensations in the body may not sound like a very helpful thing to do. But research consistently shows that learning to do this in a particular way can have a measurably positive impact on our lives.

Mindfulness will not eliminate life’s pressures. But it can help each of us to respond  in a calmer manner that benefits our heart, our body and our head.  It helps us to recognise and step away from habitual, often unconscious emotional and physiological reactions to everyday events.  To notice our typical reactions to life’s events, and make better choices about how we respond.  To feel more in control and have a greater sense of connection to our life.

Mindfulness is a practice, and provides us with a scientifically researched, systematic approach to cultivating clarity, insight and understanding.

Mindfulness introduction taster session

To further spread the knowledge of mindfulness and to allow interested people to come along and find out what it is all about, we run free introduction and taster sessions.

In these sessions we explain how the concept of a Mindful Living Programme can be adopted by almost every person and what it entails.  We also introduce the practical aspects of mindfulness meditation and you get a real opportunity to try it out and see how it feels for you.

Our next free introduction taster session will be run at our retreat centre here at QV Norrgren just outside of Loule here in the Algarve, Portugal.

The MBSR 8-week programme (2 hours per week of lessons) was developed by Jon Kabat-Zinn at the University of Massachusetts Medical Centre in the late 1970s.  Participating in the the 8-week programme enables you to learn experientially,  through systematic practice,  how best to take better care of yourself by exploring and understanding the interplay of mind and body and mobilizing your own inner resources for coping and growing. We meet once a week for two hours to learn and practice in a group setting.

Our next course will be run at our retreat centre QV Norrgren just outside of Loule her in the Algarve, Portugal.
